Pregnant pornstar stuffed empty pram with vodka in shoplifting spree to fund cocaine habit

A pregnant porn star who bundled bottles of vodka into an empty pram on a shoplifting spree has been spared a jail sentence.

Roma Lawson, 34, targeted a number of supermarkets over five weeks, starting in April when she took items from a chiller in Aldi.

Days later she shoved bottles of whisky and gin into her handbag without paying for them and returned to the Sainsbury’s store a week later.

Lawson, of Herne Bay, Kent, put six bottles of vodka into the pram on another shoplifting trip and used the same tactic to steal from a Tesco shop.

She admitted six counts of shoplifting before magistrates at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday and asked for an additional count to be taken into consideration, MailOnline reports.

Lawson, whose porn star name is Romana Ryder, had already been spared a stint in jail after she bit a police officer following her arrest on suspicion of drug-driving. For that offence she was handed an eight month suspended sentence.

She had been high on cocaine and tried to evade the police by running away half-naked through the streets.

Prosecutor Ben Wild told the court Lawson would sometimes use an empty pram or a bag for life to carry out her thefts.

He told the court she would sometimes work with others to carry out the offences, which continued in May when she stole pet food from a Tesco Express shop as well as a candle and facial cleansers from Aldi.

She then tried conning a pawnbroker out of a £2,500 ring by switching a diamond ring she had pawned months before.

The court heard on May 27 she went into Claybrooks jewellers in Herne Bay and asked to see the 14-carat band for another £30 ring before leaving.

Ian Bond, acting for Lawson, said Lawson was under stress when she carried out the crimes.

He told the court: “She has had socio-economic problems, has spent considerable periods of time caring for her sick mother, and on a number of times has been in toxic relationships where she has been the victim of domestic violence.”

He added her cocaine use started off as an “occasional thing”, but then became a “serious addiction”.

Mr Bond explained how Lawson had been living with her partner, fell pregnant and shortly afterwards her partner was remanded in custody. Her mother’s health then took a turn for the worse.

The court heard her the breach of her suspended sentence put her at risk of immediate custody for her previous offences as well as extra time in jail.

Recorder Edmund Fowler decided not to jail Lawson, telling her: “Your reliance on drugs, in my view, lies at the heart of your chaotic lifestyle.

“I have taken the view that it would be unjust to activate your suspended sentence, but I am going to extend it.”

Mr Fowler added four months to Lawson’s eight-month suspended sentence and extended the period she has to stay out of trouble from 18 months to two years.

Lawson was also ordered to carry out six months of drug rehabilitation and pay £154 in costs. She is also no longer barred from entering shops in Herne Bay.

The Judge told Lawson: “You have now got a 12-month sentence hanging over you for the next two years. Put a foot wrong and as sure as night follows day, you will go to prison.”
