The Duke of Sussex is on the hunt for a home in London according to reports, after moving away from the UK in early 2020.
Prince Harry is said to want to split his time between the UK and US, but instead of asking his father for a royal home he is hunting for his own.
Royal expert Angela Levin said Harry wants to come back “because he can do it without asking his father” and “he can then try and get protection 24/7” at “the expense of the taxpayer”.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is thought not to be as keen as her husband on the UK move.
A source told OK!: “There is a divide between the couple on this issue but they will soon start looking for a property of their own near London and Harry is very much leading this.
“Making use of a small apartment in Kensington Palace from time to time isn’t out of the question, but when it comes to a home in the UK, they will purchase that themselves.”.
Harry reportedly misses the UK, but royal experts say Meghan has no desire to visit or bring their two children, Archie, 4, and Lilibet, two.
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe said: “Harry’s got more reason to come back to the UK than Meghan, so I think we would see these trips, especially if he’s involved with things like the Invictus Games, where most of the people who work for that are in London.”
Spending more time in the UK could bring past tensions back to the surface according to some commentators, especially if the pair opt to buy independently rather than using a royal property.
PR expert Kieran Elsby said it would be “disappointing” if the Sussexes further “distance themselves” from the Royal Family. He added buying a property outside of the Firm could be construed as a “deliberate move”.
