POLL: Should the Royal Family get back to work now?

Britons returned to work earlier this week after the festive period but the Royal Family’s calendar has remained clear.

Senior members of the Firm do not have any engagements scheduled for the first week of the year, with King Charles opting to spend most of January in Scotland.

The King and Queen Camilla spent New Year’s Eve at Sandringham in Norfolk after hosting Christmas there but are due to fly to Aberdeenshire to spend the next few weeks at Birkhall, on the Balmoral estate, according to The Telegraph.

By choosing to relocate to Scotland in the New Year, Charles breaks a decades-old tradition set by his late mother.

Queen Elizabeth II traditionally stayed in Norfolk during January to mark her accession day, February 6, at Sandringham.

Not all members of the Firm are taking a long break from engagements, with Princess Anne conducting the first overseas tour of the year, travelling to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka from January 10 to 13 .

The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence will take part in events to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the UK.
