POLL: Should the death penalty be brought back for child killers like Lucy Letby?

Child killer Lucy Letby was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill another six on Friday following a spree of attacks which have horrified Britain.

The neonatal nurse, 33, worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital, murdering her young victims between June 2015 and June 2016.

Her crimes were uncovered when doctors reviewed the suspicious deaths at the hospital and found that Letby was on shift for each incident — but it would take years before the killer would be brought to justice.

The families of the victims will read victim statements before hearing Letby sentenced at Manchester Crown Court today, although the former hospital worker herself decided has decided not to appear in the dock.

Letby’s actions have raised new questions over whether time in prison is punishment enough for someone who targeted such vulnerable young children at the start of their lives.
