POLL: Do you feel sorry for Nicola Sturgeon?

Former SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has appeared at the Covid inquiry this week, giving evidence on her suitability to lead Scotland during the pandemic.

Ms Sturgeon became tearful when answering questions on Wednesday, confessing a “large part” of her wished she was not Scotland’s leader during the Covid outbreak.

At the hearing in Edinburgh she was asked about her suitability to lead Scotland, and answered accusations of her Government using the pandemic for political purposes.

She said: “The idea that in those horrendous days, weeks, I was thinking of political opportunity was not the case.”

The inquiry also revealed that Ms Sturgeon, who resigned in late March 2023, had deleted WhatsApp messages from the pandemic.

However, she insisted using WhatsApp was “not a helpful process in reaching decisions” and said no Covid-related decisions were made via the messaging app.

Express readers were quick to condemn Ms Sturgeon’s emotional show, with one commenter writing: “Sturgeon’s crocodile tears convinced no-one.”

However X user @EllieMStewart came to her defence, posting: “She led well, with empathy and courage.”
