Police Scotland’s chief quits after Sturgeon forces ‘unsustainable’ £300m cuts

The Chief Constable of Police Scotland is to quit after five years in the role. Iain Livingstone, 56, is to stand down, according to reports.

It comes after warnings from Police Scotland and the Scottish Police Authority that Scottish Government spending plans could result in a “fundamental reduction” in policing.

Mr Livingstone has been in charge of Police Scotland since 2018 with his term extended to August 2025 two years ago.

His resignation is expected with the publication of a report which will reportedly say policing in Scotland is “unsustainable” given the funding settlement from the SNP-led Scottish Government.
