Police launch murder investigation after teen dies in hospital parking lot after row


An 18-year-old boy has died in a hospital car park sparking a murder investigation by police.

Devon and Cornwall Police have arrested a 17-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the incident on Wallace Street, Bodmin in Cornwall in the early hours of Sunday. 

An 18-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. 

Police believe the victim was taken to Bodmin Hospital by a member of the public but died in the car park. 

A cordon remains in place on Wallace Road as police continue their enquiries while a guard is also in place in the hospital car park. 

Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson from the Major Crime Team said they were called to a property shortly after midnight when a “number of people fled the scene, one of which has sustained a serious injury”. 

DI Rosson continued: “We believe that the injured person was taken to Bodmin Hospital by a member of the public. Despite the best efforts of those at the scene, an 18-year-old local man died of his injuries in the car park of Bodmin Hospital.

“Formal identification has yet to have taken place, but his next of kin have been informed.”

Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward who were in the area between “Wallace Street, Berrycombe Road, and the A389 between Cardell Road and Bodmin Hospital between 10:00pm Saturday and 1:30am on Sunday.”

DI Rosson also confirmed that an increased police presence will remain in the area as there investigation continues.
