Police hunt New York serial stabber launching 'unprovoked' attacks across city

A serial stabber is on the loose in New York City after four unprovoked stabbing incidents, police said.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) warned in a post on X on Wednesday of an individual wanted for incidents in the Rochdale Village area of Queens.

The most recent stabbings occurred on Wednesday in the Springfield Gardens section of Queens just before 7:30am at 134th Avenue and 161st Street.

A 74-year-old man was stabbed in the lower abdomen and a 41-year-old man was stabbed in the back on Wednesday. Both victims were taken to Jamaica Hospital and expected to survive.

Another stabbing occurred on Tuesday around 12:08am near 158th Street and 134th Avenue in Queens, when the unidentified individual approached a 34-year-old woman from behind and stabbed her in the torso.

Police are also linking the suspect to a fourth incident on January 8, when a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the back at the intersection of 157th Street and 137th Avenue.

None of the attacks were provoked, police said.

The NYPD has now released surveillance photos and videos of the suspect and has asked anyone with information to contact the police department.

The suspect was seen wearing a black jacket with a green hoodie, black pants, and black Adidas sneakers.

There are no current updates on the condition of the victims.

Meanwhile, there has been an increase in police presence in the subway system, as police are open to the possibility that the same suspect may have stabbed a man on a subway in Brooklyn earlier this month.

On Wednesday morning, a 28-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen while riding a northbound J subway train. The suspect got off the subway at Flushing Avenue station, while the victim got off at Myrtle Avenue.

It is not clear if police believe there are more attacks, and a motive is not yet known.
