Police divers search Barcelona port for missing Celebrity X Factor star Levi Davis

Police divers have started searching the port of Barcelona for missing ex-rugby player and Celebrity X Factor star Levi Davis.

Searches were also being carried out at the Llobregat Delta – part of a river which lies to the south-west of Barcelona.

A tweet from the Mossos d’Esquadra regional police force said: “We continue to investigate the disappearance of a man in Barcelona on October 29.

“We have activated the maritime police and the aquatic unit to search the port of Barcelona and the Llobregat Delta. The case remains open.”

Mr Davis appeared on ITV’s Celebrity X Factor in 2019, alongside fellow rugby stars Ben Foden and Thom Evans, in a singing group known as Try Star.

He was also on E4’s Celebs Go Dating in 2020.

Mr Davis had signed a record deal and had gone to stay with his friend Richard Squire in Ibiza to work on some songs.

Speaking to the BBC in March, Mr Squire said he had dropped Mr Davis off in Ibiza Town on October 28 and not seen him since.

He said Mr Davis had told him he was heading to Barcelona.

Mr Davis told Mr Squire he would call when he arrived in Barcelona but never did.

Bath Rugby shared a missing persons appeal in November as concerns grew.

Last month, Julie Davis, the Bath Rugby player’s mum, said in a statement their family was told by police they think a man spotted in the ocean by a cruise liner crew is likely Mr. Davis.

Four members of the crew, who were docking in Barcelona on the morning of October 30, a day after the singer went missing, reported seeing a man.

They reportedly said the man was wearing the same light-coloured top as Mr Davis.

The crew said they heard the man shouting for help several times in English. He was thrown a lifebuoy but a search by police and coastguard was to no avail.

In a statement in April, police said that his mother Julie Davis and friend Richard Squire met local police on Monday for an update on the investigation into his disappearance.

The statement read: “Extensive work has been done to track Levi’s movements on the night of the 29th October and they are able to confirm that following his last reported sighting at the Hard Rock Cafe, Levi walked back down La Rambla and entered the commercial port.

“His phone last registered in the early hours of Saturday 30th October with a phone tower at the far end of the port closest to the sea entrance.”

The statement added how reports of a cruise liner entering the port at 6.30am on October 30.

The family confirmed: “Four staff confirmed seeing a man in the water with specific details including him asking for help in English and the colour of his clothing.

“A life jacket was thrown from the ship and emergency sea and air rescue services searched the area but they were unable to find him.”
