Police cut off large part of Newcastle city centre as officers investigate major incident


A large section of Newcastle city centre has been cut off by police as officers investigate an incident which occured overnight.

The large cordon has been put in place across the Bigg Market and on High Bridge. Some businesses have reportedly not been able to open this morning due to the ongoing incident.

A spokesperson or WC and Gin Closet told Chronicle Live: “Looks like ambulances and police were there around 3.15am and stopping people from walking up and down Cloth Market. Not sure If there’s been an incident in Market Shaker/Beehive or the Blues bar.”

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) told the publication that one patient was taken to hospital following an incident on the Cloth Market in Newcastle at around 2.09am this morning.
