Plans for huge cruise ship to house asylum seekers near Liverpool 'axed after port row'


The Government has scrapped plans to host an asylum seeker ship near Liverpool, a source has claimed. 

The ship was due to house 500 asylum-seeking men, but now won’t serve this role following objections from officials in Birkenhead. 

Peel Ports has declined to host the large ship, which was one of seven planned by ministers as part of the Conservative Party’s “stop the boats” plan. 

The source confirmed the decision to to Sky News this morning, which comes as another setback for the Prime Minister’s flagship immigration policy.
