Piers Morgan shuts down Alastair Campbell as he exposes double standards over Tony Blair

Piers Morgan slapped down Alastair Campbell after he criticised Rishi Sunak over his interview with the broadcaster.

The former spin doctor for Sir Tony Blair questioned why Mr Sunak does not “just do the effing job” as he branded his media appearances “beyond embarrassing”.

But Mr Morgan hit back saying he had more than 50 meetings with Sir Tony when he was in No 10 which were arranged by Mr Campbell.

Mr Campbell took to X to retweet a post about a bet the Prime Minister entered with Mr Morgan over his Rwanda plan during his TalkTV interview on Monday.

He said: “Instead of playing along with silly stunts on a show that would always be about the presenter, and then doing Test Match Special, can’t he just do the effing job? Be the Prime Minister. His media outings are beyond embarrassing.”

But Mr Morgan replied: “Reminder: I had 56 one-on-one meetings at No10 with Tony Blair when he was Prime Minister, all of them arranged by Campbell. Yes, fifty-six.”

Mr Sunak came under criticism for shaking hands on a wager offered by Mr Morgan over the Rwanda policy.

The TalkTV presenter bet Mr Sunak £1,000 to a refugee charity that “you don’t get anybody on those planes before the election”.

The Prime Minister said: “I want to get the people on the planes. I am working incredibly hard to get the people on the planes.”

Mr Sunak faced criticism for the bet on the controversial subject as households struggle with the cost of living crisis.

He has since insisted he is “not a betting person” and was “taken totally by surprise”.
