Peter Phillips once got an almighty telling off for fooling around with Prince William

The Prince of Wales went on to say that the lamppost came down and nearly squashed Peter’s younger sister and to their bad luck it was the late Queen who spotted it first.

He explained: “The lamppost came down and nearly squashed her, and I remember my grandmother being the first person out at Balmoral running across the lawn in her kilt.

“(She) came charging over and gave us the most almighty b******ing, and that sort of stuck in my mind from that moment on.”

The son of the Princess Royal appeared to be quite cheeky during his early years and would get up to no good along with his cousins, William and Harry.

During an interview on ITV’s Good Morning Britain in 2016, Peter admitted: “We had great fun growing up on our holidays, going to stay with her [Queen Elizabeth] at Sandringham, Balmoral and Windsor and we were incredibly lucky to be able to share a lot of our childhood time with her.”

He also recalled the “chaos” he and his sister Zara caused with William and Harry, and added: “We had a lot of fun and there was a lot of space for kids to run around in and it wasn’t just us, it was the Waleses [William and Harry] Freddie and Ella Windsor and the Gloucesters.

“So there was quite a gang of us growing up in that age and it was a lot of fun. We caused quite a bit of mayhem and chaos but fortunately, I don’t think we broke too much.”
