Pensioner falls 130ft to his death in hole he dug under his kitchen looking for treasure

A 71-year-old man lost his life while chasing a dream of buried gold beneath his kitchen floor.

João Pimenta’s fatal fall occurred on January 5 when he lost his balance and plummeted down a 130-foot hole he had been digging for over a year at his home in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The obsession with the supposed treasure began after Pimenta had a “prophetic dream,” convincing him that untold riches lay beneath his property.

Undeterred by the danger, he spent more than a year excavating the hole, which ended up being as deep as a 12-story building.

Reports suggest that Pimenta had even considered using dynamite to overcome obstacles in his search for the elusive gold.

Local authorities responded to the incident, and Pimenta’s body was transported to a medical center for autopsy.

One neighbor, Arnaldo da Silva, spoke to Brazilian news outlet, Globo about Pimenta.

He said: “He had already bought all the equipment, he sold everything he had in search of that gold. He had several rental houses, but he started selling the properties.”

Firefighters expressed amazement at the individual’s ability to excavate a hole “so deep and with such a stable structure, approaching perfection.”
