Penny-pinching Brit slammed for wrapping Christmas gifts in tin foil 'like packed lunch'

A penny-pinching Brit has been slammed for their present wrapping skills after their gifts came out looking like a “family packed lunch”. The cost of living crisis has left millions of people looking for a way to save money in 2023, as while inflation has eased slightly, there is still a long way to go.

Some Britons have been hailed for their money-saving methods, others have gone a step too far, some believe.

One social media user has shown how they used tin foil to wrap their presents this year, championing a set of benefits from switching out traditional wrapping paper in a post on Reddit.

The result prompted immediate pushback, with people feeling the choice of material meant their gifts were only appropriate “if old Santa Nick is Bringing burritos”.

Posting on the r/CasualUK subreddit, Reddit user u/Laurence-UK said tin foil made appropriate wrapping paper for four reasons.

They said: “Does anyone else wrap presents in tin foil? 1. It’s cheaper than wrapping paper.

“2. No tape or scissors required. 3. It is silver so looks Christmasy. 4. Easy to do so can be done in the car outside big Tesco.”

The user posted a picture of six wrapped presents lying on their car seat and received hundreds of comments in reply.

One user said the collection “looks like a family packed lunch”, while another joked about the potential confusion.

They wrote: “When you get around the tree and find you’ve given your special someone ham sandwich, while their Christmas socks are chilling in your work fridge, you’ll know you messed up.”

A third user said they were “only appropriate if old Saint Nick is bringing Burritos”.

Some Redditors had even harsher words for the original poster, with one saying the move was “f****d up”, and another branding them a “psychopath”.

Others questioned the logic behind the move, saying that tinfoil is often more expensive than wrapping paper.

One said: “I genuinely didn’t buy tinfoil the other day as I thought ‘I’m not paying that!’ Meanwhile, I can get three rolls of wrapping paper for £2.”
