Kensington Palace aides have blasted “madness” circulating on social media as Princess Kate continues her recovery in Windsor.
Princess Kate is currently taking time away from duty after undergoing abdominal surgery back in January.
Kate, 42, spent almost a fortnight in hospital and is now back at Adelaide Cottage on the road to recovery.
Although Kensington Palace shared that Kate had been admitted for the “planned” surgery on January 16, further details have been kept to a minimum – and the Palace has made it clear it has no intentions of fuelling a running commentary.
Prince William has also been taking on fewer public duties as he focuses on family.
The Princess of Wales has not been seen in public since Christmas Day, and is not expected to return to duty until after Easter.
Although Kensington Palace insists that Kate is “doing well”, rumours have began circulating over the royal and her health.
Kensington Palace released a statement earlier this week – seemingly in relation to the rumours circulating on social media – which read: “We were really clear from the start we weren’t going to provide a running commentary on the Princess of Wales’s health and only provide significant updates.”
Speaking to The Sun, Royal aides added: “Obviously we’ve seen the madness of social media and that is not going to change our strategy.
“There has been much on social media but the Princess has a right to privacy and asks the public to respect that.”
Continuing, they added: “We remind you of the statement in January where it was the Princess of Wales’s wish her medical information would remain private.”
In their statement released on January 17, aides did not give further details on the nature of the procedure, but sources added that it was non-cancerous.
A spokesperson, at the time, said that Kate would not be returning to duty until after Easter – which falls at the end of March.
There have been no updates on her condition or recovery since January 17.
William has since returned to duty after being the sole carer for their three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five – during his wife’s 13-day hospital stay.
