Outrage as Peak District roads clogged up with tourists leaving locals furious

A TikTok video has shown wild scenes in the Peak District over the Easter Weekend, as lots of families in cars rushed to the beauty spot.

Angry local people have blamed visitors for filling up the national park and causing jammed roads. The social media video showed long lines of vehicles blocking small streets in the Derbyshire countryside.

Some people living in the pretty area even said they ‘can’t go out anymore’ and have to do a ‘big food shop’ the week before holidays.

TikTok user Lucy Sturgess filmed the messy scenes at the national park while out cycling on Saturday. She posted the footage online with the caption: “Cars everywhere in the peak district today! ” People reported seeing cars left on grass verges with many vehicles getting parking tickets.

Local people commented on the video to criticise the wild scenes. They blamed the wave of holiday makers for the terrible traffic at the popular beauty spot, which saw hundreds of vehicles fill the countryside roads, reports the Manchester Evening News.

“Try living there it’s a nightmare,” one person wrote. Another commented: “It’s really sad I think, whilst it’s good for local business, idiots clog driveways, field entrances etc up and it takes away the natural beauty spot.”

“Drove by earlier with cars parked everywhere on the verges with dozens and dozens slapped with parking tickets. Bonkers behaviour,” said another.

One local said they hide away when it gets busy, sharing: “God yeah us locals can’t go out anymore always make sure to do a big food shop the week before and stay inside!”

Another person added: “I was there yesterday there was also over 100 cars got parking tickets,” while someone from Castleton confirmed: “I’m from Castleton and can confirm it’s always like this on Bank Holidays and sometimes weekends during the summer.”
