Outrage after Chicago child molested in beach bathroom 'worse than jail'

A child was reportedly molested in a public beach bathroom in Chicago, Illinois.

Families living near to Rainbow Beach have been left outraged following the incident, which is said to have happened at around 5.30pm on last Tuesday.

The suspect – believed to be a Hispanic man aged between 35 45 – is said to have fled the scene after sexually assaulting the youngster.

Activists gathered on Sunday afternoon to hand out sketches they believe depicted the offender.

They also took fire at Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, claiming a lack of security cameras in the area shows the city’s South Side has been neglected.

Executive Director of Violence Interrupters Tio Hardiman warned parents to avoid letting their children use public bathrooms.

Speaking to Fox32, he said: “I want to send a message out to the parents of Chicago, never allow your child to go to a public bathroom in the city of Chicago. It’s something out of a horror movie… You never know what’s lurking inside these bathrooms.”

Meanwhile CEO of Chicago Against Violence Andre Smith wants to know why the bathroom is not covered by security cameras. He said: “How can we not have cameras at this beach to protect our most precious, our pride and joy, who are supposed to be out here enjoying themselves?”

Smith also hoped the incident could lead to improvement work at the bathrooms. He current argued they are worse than “than jail institution washrooms”.

The campaigners now hope someone could have seen the man if they were in the Rainbow Beach area at the time of the attack.

A similar incident is believe to have happened in November when a girl was walking home from school.
