'Our pretty market town could be ruined by King Charles's plans for 2,500 new homes'

Locals in a pretty market town have hit back at King Charles’s plans to build 2,500 new homes, calling it ‘concerning’.

Faversham residents say the homes, which will be built on a 320-acre plot of agricultural land, are “not well thought out” and could “radically alter” the town.

The plans were put forward by the Duchy of Cornwall on land acquired in 1999, when King Charles was the Prince of Wales and owned the estate.

The Duchy has proposed building a 2,500-home ‘ideal town’ in Faversham, similar in style to Poundbury, Glos.

It will deliver “affordable homes designed and built to the same high-quality standards, indistinguishable from market homes”, according to a website for the development.
