Only time Princess Lilibet 'will wear a crown' laid bare by royal expert

A royal expert has revealed that the only time Princess Lilibet will wear a crown will be “on the playground” as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to keep their distance from the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Montecito in California with baby Prince Archie in 2020, with Lilibet arriving the following year and growing up thousands of miles away from her extended family.

She is named after her late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, as Lilibet was her childhood nickname, however the controversy surrounding the choice has recently resurfaced after it was claimed in a new royal biography that the Queen was not happy about it.

However US-based royal commentator and podcaster Kinsey Schofield told Express.co.uk that Lilibet is not likely to be aware of the scandal as she gets older due to her parents being so protective.

She said: “Based on some of the causes that Harry and Meghan have taken up, I bet it will be a significant amount of time before Lili has the type of freedom online to discover this particular scandal. By then, I imagine that she will have it indoctrinated in her that the press is bad and full of misinformation… according to her parents.”

She added: “As an American with little to no connection to her father’s heritage, Lili will likely not be bothered by the sensational story. She will not understand the importance of her great-grandmother because Meghan has shown no interest in investing in the history of Harry’s family and based on a few factual errors in Harry’s book, Spare, it’s safe to assume he’s completely oblivious.

“Lili is not a princess in the United States because we don’t have those. She can wear a crown on the local playground but so could anyone. She would not understand the chaos surrounding this story because she is and will likely continue to be so detached from the Royal Family.

“Harry and Meghan are in their own little bubble in California… and might grow older with children that resent the isolation they’ve created between them and their extended families.”

In spite of their distance from the Firm Archie and Lilibet remain sixth and seventh in the line of succession respectively, just behind their father.

Even though Harry and his uncle Prince Andrew are no longer working royals, they could still technically become King and are according to royal legislation Counsellors of State, meaning they can be called on to stand in for Charles if he is incapacitated.

However in 2022 Princess Anne and Prince Edward were also added to the list of Counsellors, meaning the likelihood of Harry and Andrew being called on is small.
