'One tough puppy!' Moment crews rescue dog from Utah mountains after 'brutal night alone'

A sheriff’s department has caught the moment emergency personnel rescued a stuck puppy from her perilous perch in the mountains of Utah. Rescue crews reached Nala the dog after she was separated from her owner during a Christmas Eve walk. A video taken by rescuers with the Weber County Sherrif’s Office (WCSAR) shows the panicked dog running perilously over snowcapped mountains near Utah’s Waterfall Canyon.

In drone footage shared by the office, Nala is perched on a snowy ledge above the waterfall and barking with her tail between her legs.

A team of two rescue personnel reached the dog after she retreated to lower ground, but she tried to run away.

WCSAR explained via Facebook: “However, with a lot of patience, and a little help with the buzzing sound of the drone, Nala approached her rescuers and got some well-deserved care.”

They found the dog in bushes near the area and successfully attached a lead before guiding her to safety.

After unsuccessfully looking on Christmas Eve, they saw Nala during a second rescue attempt but could not reach her.

The owner found Nala above a waterfall but was “unable to get to her due to the steep and icy terrain”.

WCSA praised the dog after she made the trip back to her family on ground level.

The sheriff’s office said: “She is one tough puppy! Once reaching the trailhead parking lot, both human and canine couldn’t have been happier to be reunited. A very Merry Christmas Rescue.”
