One of the UK's prettiest beaches suddenly transformed from sand into stone

One of the UK’s prettiest beaches has suddenly transformed from sand into stone.

Newborough Beach, Wales, was previously known for its golden sands and waving Corsican pine trees before the sudden change earlier this year.

However, the beach in Anglesey has been changed beyond recognition by Storm Isha and Storm Jocelyn which swept the sand from the shore and into a neighbouring car park.

NorthWalesLive reported that visitors to the area were advised that if they were “looking for the sand, it’s in the car park”.

In a statement following the transformation, a spokesperson for Natural Resources Wales (NRW) said: “We regularly monitor the accumulation of sand within the car park and remove it as it builds up.

“We cleared sand just before Christmas but unfortunately following the recent storms the sand has now accumulated again and we plan to remove this early next week.”

Furthermore, despite the dramatic change, dog walkers and other tourists are hopeful the beach will soon return to its former glory.

What’s more, if visitors aren’t keen to try out the new beach, the nearby forest is an excellent place for bracing walks in nature.

Away from the forest, Newborough Beach is one of the most remarkable stretches of coastline in the UK.

According to the NRW, before they were moved into the car park it had “one of the largest and finest dune systems in Britain”.

They added: “Newborough Warren and Ynys Llanddwyn was declared the first coastal National Nature Reserve in Wales in 1955.

“The Corsican pine trees that makeup Newborough Forest were planted between 1947 and 1965 to provide timber and to stabilise the shifting sand dunes. Today it is a popular area for recreation and home to wildlife, especially red squirrels.”

The beach and local area have also built a significant following on TripAdvisor. Pippa S said: “Beautiful forest and beach. The dunes were fascinating and so interesting to read about them on the information boards.

“So much space and tranquillity. And we saw a red squirrel, which we weren’t expecting as it was quite late in the day.”

MrsHartley2410 was equally impressed: “Wow, I had read about this before our visit to Anglesey and it didn’t disappoint. The parking was really good, very clean toilets if needed!

“The views and walks were stunning. The tide was on its way out so we were able to cross over to Llanddwyn, we did paddle over and the water was very refreshing! Gorgeous views everywhere.”
