A boat carrying British tourists has overturned in Italy while the passengers were celebrating a birthday, with the one reported to have tragically died. The sixteen-meter boat is believed capsized during the incident which happened on Lake Maggiore, on the border of Italy and Switzerland.
The majority of the 25 persons aboard were able to swim to safety and land on the beaches between Lisanza and Piccaluga. Other boats in the area eventually came to their aid.
Three others were taken with “not very critical” injuries, while two people were rushed to the hospital in a “moderately critical” state.
Fifteen people received on-site medical care but didn’t need to be admitted to the hospital.
