Nursing home roof collapses in Florida thunderstorm

A nursing home in Clewiston, Florida has been evacuated after thunderstorms in the area caused the building’s roof to collapse.

The Clewiston Police Department has confirmed than over 100 residents were moved from the Clewiston Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre on 301 Gloria St.  Police say 113 people were moved to the John Boy Auditorium, Hendry County Emergency Management said.

They added that buses took the majority of the residents to the auditorium.  Those requiring immediate attention, for issues including dialysis, were taken to an area hospital.

There are no fatalities or injuries reported by the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office at this time.  Robert Pastula, Hendry County Emergency Management Director, has said the residents are expected to spend the night at the auditorium.
