Novak Djokovic splits with iconic coach who he argued with on the regular

Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he has split with his coach Goran Ivanisevic after six years together. Ivanisevic, who is a former Wimbledon champion and had his own illustrious career, will no longer be working with the world No. 1 after the Serb confirmed the news on social media.

Taking to Instagram, Djokovic explained the mutual decision: “I remember clearly the moment I invited Goran to be part of my team. It was in 2018, and Marian and I were looking to innovate and bring some serve magic to our duo.

“In fact, not only we brought serve but also lots of laughter, fun, year-end No1 rankings, record-breaking achievements and 12 more grand slams (and a few finals) to the court since then.

“Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on-court chemistry had its ups and downs but our friendship was always rock solid. Thanks for everything my friend.”

Ivanisevic had been credited with transforming Djokovic’s serve, but the pair admitted to arguing constantly. The Croatian shared how he had found it difficult to keep his player motivated after so much success, as he opened up on their relationship.

“It is not easy to motivate him because he has already won everything, but we have a way,” Ivanisevic said in October. “Many times we don’t agree, but it’s good to argue on the court. I love this job. Work can only be done if you love it and have the support of your family. If you don’t know how to deal with stress, which is always present, then you can’t do your job.”
