Nottingham Forest face second points deduction as top stars put up for sale

Nottingham Forest risk being slapped with another points deduction next season unless they auction off one of their star players early in the summer transfer window. Top Premier League clubs could begin circling around the likes of Anthony Elanga and Morgan Gibbs-White as a result, with the Tricky Trees in a perilous position.

Forest were promoted to the top flight in 2022 and immediately set about a friovolous transfer spree. A dizzying total of 43 new signings were welcomed to the City Ground over the next three transfer windows, at great expense to the club’s owners.

That came back to bite them on Monday as a breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) saw them docked four points. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side consequently slid into the relegation zone with only nine matches still to play.

The verdict released by the independent commission which dished out the penalty has exposed the fact that Forest will once again have breached PSR for the three-year period ending on June 30, 2024, unless they raise £30million in profit through player sales before that date.
