North Korea expels US soldier Travis King who crossed border to 'escape discrimination'

North Korea has “expelled” US Army Private Travis King, who crossed into Pyongyang from South Korea during a tour of the joint security area.

King made the landmark move in July, sparking a huge diplomatic row over what exactly should be done with him – and what secrets he might expose to North Korea.

But in a statement, Pyongyang’s state media, KCNA, said that the country “decided to expel Travis King, a soldier of the US Army who illegally intruded into the territory of the DPRK, under the law of the Republic”.

It confirmed it had been carrying out an investigation into what to do with King but that had now “been finished”.
