‘No contest!’ Boris Johnson voted most popular Tory politician by Express readers

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s resignation has not wiped out his unwavering support among Express.co.uk readers, with more than half voting for him as their favourite Tory politician in a new poll.

Mr Johnson’s Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency is one of three seats up for grabs at Thursday’s by-elections which would weaken Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s premiership.

Loyal allies of Mr Johnson have continued to cause problems for Mr Sunak’s leadership with Tory peer Gavin Barwell claiming on Twitter last month that the resignations which resulted in the by-elections were a “coordinated attempt” to damage the Government.

In a poll that ran from 3.45pm on Monday, July 17, to 2.45pm on Wednesday, July 19, Express.co.uk asked readers: “Who is your favourite Tory politician?”

Overall, 5,217 votes were cast with Mr Johnson won by a landslide, with 52 percent (2,696 people) backing him as their favourite.
