Nigel Farage slams Sadiq Khan over ULEZ – 'I've never seen people so angry'

Nigel Farage says he has “never seen people so angry” as anti-ULEZ protesters gathered outside Downing Street on the first day of the expansion.

The former Ukip and Brexit Party leader took to Twitter to share a video of demonstrators lining the road leading to Downing Street in the centre of London.

He asked London Mayor Sadiq Khan if he was “listening” as he slammed the “new tax on working people”.

The GB News presenter, who joined protesters, said: “Huge anti-ULEZ protest happening outside of Downing Street right now.

“I’ve never seen people so angry about this new tax on working people. Are you listening Sadiq Khan?”

ULEZ charging zone extended from today

It comes as the charging zone, which previously only covered central London, was widened today to the whole of the capital.

It means more drivers will be forced to pay the £12.50 daily fee for the most polluting vehicles in a bid to improve air quality.

Anti-ULEZ protesters have gathered outside Downing Street blowing whistles and banging drums.

Some have placards saying “Stop the toxic air lie” and “ULEZ all about money”.

Others carried mocked-up car registration plates reading: “Get Khan out”

Husband and wife Tom and Carolyn Dare were among the crowd taking part in the demonstration against the ULEZ expansion.

Ms Dare said she wanted Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to “overrule” the Labour Mayor of London. Mr Dare said Mr Khan was “shutting down London basically”.

Mr Khan defended the widening of the zone despite strong opposition, including from his own party, during a bruising round of interviews this morning.

He insisted the policy is “not anti-car” and that clean air is “a right not a privilege”.

But Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the expansion is not about air pollution but a “money-raising exercise”.
