Nigel Farage says Brexit has 'failed' as he warns UK's exit has been 'totally mismanaged'

Nigel Farage said Brexit has “failed” economically as the UK’s exit has been “mismanaged”.

The former Ukip leader made the comments during an appearance on the BBC’s Newsnight.

The Brexit architect said the UK has not taken advantage of the economic benefits leaving the EU offers.

He warned that high taxes and even more red tape than when Britain was part of the bloc is “driving away” businesses.

The GB News presenter also refused to rule out a future political comeback.

Asked if economically the UK would have been better staying in the EU, Mr Farage said: “I don’t think that for a moment.

“But what I do think is we haven’t actually benefited from Brexit economically when we could have done.

“What Brexit has proved, I’m afraid, is that our politicians are about as useless as the commissioners in Brussels. We’ve mismanaged this totally.

“And if you look at simple things such as takeovers, corporation tax, we are driving business away from our country.

“Arguably, now we’re back in control we’re regulating our own businesses even more than they were as EU members. Brexit has failed.”

Pressed on if a comeback is on the horizon, Mr Farage added: “I wouldn’t rule it out, it’s not at the top of my bucket list.

“But frankly, we’ve not delivered on borders, we’ve not delivered on Brexit and the Tories have let us down very, very badly.”
