Nick Kyrgios manager has dismissed suggestions the controversial tennis star will be retiring soon. Daniel Horsfall is not only the former Wimbledon finalist’s chief organiser for his tennis career but is also a close friend.
Speculation regarding the Australian’s future in the game also intensified when he declared in a recent podcast interview with Jay Shetty, that he didn’t “really want to play anymore”, especially with injury keeping him out of the game for the entirety of 2023, except for just one match in June.
He recently announced he will not be at the Australian Open in January, and his return to the court remains up in the air. But Horsfall shut down any talk of Kyrgios being close to walking away from the game.
“I think that clip was from the Jay Shetty podcast,” Horsfall said on Thursday. “Nick got really open and emotional with Jay, and I guess he visited some past demons. But for sure, all those things that he said like exhaustion, injuries or surgeries.
“It’s all true. But, you know, he’s going to soldier on, he feels like he’s got a lot more to give.” Kyrgios recently joined content sharing platform OnlyFans to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at his life. Revealing details about his new page and the reasons behind it, Kyrgios said: “Launching an OnlyFans was a no-brainer.
“They are revolutionising social media and I wanted to be a part of that. Athletes can no longer just show up on the court or the field, we have to show up online too. I want to create, produce, direct and own content. That’s the future. I’ve been speaking to my fans directly for years and I know what they want to see.
“Of course, there’ll be tennis balls involved, tips, tricks and behind the scenes, but also they’ll get to see all different sides of me. Gaming, tattoos, my intimate side – it’s all on the table and I’ll be bringing fans along for the ride!”
Whenever Kyrgios does decide to hang up his racket, a career as a tennis analyst may be on the cards following his recent stint on Tennis Channel. While on the air with Jim Courier and Brett Haber in November covering the ATP Finals, contrary to his Shetty comments, he claimed he was very keen on returning to the sport.
“I’m doing everything I am to get back out there,” he said. “Every day, doing the rehab, doing the gym work, but to be here, to be able to watch the match we’re about to watch … I’m really looking forward to breaking it down for everyone out there.”
