New York horror: Police officer stabbed in head with machete in possible NYE terror attack

A rookie cop and his partner were slashed by a machete wielding suspect just outside of the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square. One officer was reportedly struck in the head with a machete by a 19-year-old suspect – it was his first day on the job.

Trevor Bickford allegedly attacked a group of NYPD officers outside of a security screening zone for the famous ball drop celebration in central New York City just before 10pm EST Saturday.

The attack is being investigated as a potential terrorist incident and the suspect may have previously posted what officers called jihadist writings online.

The suspect attacked the officers, slashing the rookie cop in the head. At least one officer then shot the suspect, striking him in the shoulder. Police have said the alleged attacker’s injuries are not life threatening. Bickford was reportedly known to authorities due to previous online postings.
