New weather maps show UK to be hit with 600-mile wall of heavy rain and snow

The UK could be hit with a 600-mile wall of wintery weather, bringing rain and snow.

WXCharts has forecast a period of heavy rain in a fortnight, with the length of the UK seeing downpours on February 12.

There is a chance of some snow across much of Scotland as well as in the north of England.

The areas with heavy rain forecast are Wales and the Midlands as well as central Scotland.

Temperatures for the period dip down to around 0C in central Scotland, northern England and Wales. North Scotland, Northern Ireland and the south of England will sit at around 4C.

Met Office five-day forecast

Tonight, there will be a weakening band of wet and windy weather moving southeast across England and Wales, followed by clearer skies later.

After a chilly start, Thursday will be a mostly dry day with gentle winds and some sunshine. However, showers in the north will give way to some wet and windy weather later.

Over the weekend, it will be windy with rain at times, especially in the north and west. It will briefly turn colder in the north, with some hill snow. It will be brightest in the east.

Met Office long-range forecast

The start of February will see changeable conditions at first, with spells of mild, wet and windy weather punctuated by drier, cooler interludes.

The northwest is likely to see the heaviest and most persistent rain, while the east will tend to be drier overall.

It will be largely cloudy with the best sunshine in the east and a chance of colder conditions more widely during the second week of the month.

Cloud and rain being pushed in from the Atlantic may be forced to track across the south of the country where it may remain milder.
