New weather maps show the exact date UK will be drenched by 580-mile wall of heavy rain

New weather maps have shown exactly when a 580-mile wall of snow will hit the UK this month.

According to forecasters at WXCharts the majority of the country will be drenched by heavy rain on Tuesday, February 20, with rain washing down from Inverness to London.

The north of the country could see rain of up to 10mm per hour with almost all of Northern Ireland and Scotland being impacted.

In England, Manchester, Birmingham and London are all expected to be drenched by rain of about 5mm per hour, while those in Kent, Cambridge and Bristol will see lighter drizzle.

But despite soggy conditions, WXCharts forecasters expect temperatures to remain mild, with UK temperatures averaging 6C despite some of the country’s northernmost areas dropping to 0C.

The Met Office is also predicting a week of drizzle and showers beginning on Thursday, February 15 and lasting until Saturday, February 24.

Its long-range forecast for the period read: “The period will likely begin on the mild side of average for most, with quite extensive cloud cover and outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

“During this time the far north and northeast, may just about hang on to some slightly colder and clearer conditions with near average temperatures.

“It is probable that for a time, these slightly colder and clearer conditions alongside a few showers may make some southwards progress, allowing some slight snowfall for hills, and frost by night.

“However any such southwards incursions of colder air look likely to be short-lived, with milder conditions bringing further cloud, rain and drizzle expected to quickly re-establish from the southwest for all but the far north and northeast.”

For next week the forecaster says parts of Scotland could see showers later this afternoon getting heavier on Monday, but the south of the country is expected to remain dry until Tuesday.

The Met Office forecast for the period between Tuesday and Thursday next week read: “On Tuesday blustery showers easing in the north. Elsewhere wet and windy weather sweeping in from the southwest. Mostly mild and breezy on Wednesday and Thursday, with rain at times.”
