New poll finds over half of population believe police deal with protests 'badly'

Half the population believe such stunts have been handled “badly”, a Savanta poll has found.

Only 39 per cent said the police do a good job when handling eco demonstrations, such as those by Just Stop Oil.

However, the public is split on their approach to pro-Palestinian action, as 41 per cent said the police have performed well and 40 per cent think they have not.

Elsewhere, just 12 per cent said the police have a Left-wing bias, compared to 26 per cent who claimed they have Right-wing sympathies.

Overall, 56 per cent said peaceful protests are approached well and 35 per cent disagreed.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council said: “The ability to protest is a fundamental part of democracy. All groups or causes are treated impartially.”
