The latest weather maps show parts of Britain will be walloped with snow for seven days with temperatures plunging to -15C. Parts of western and central Scotland will see snowfall today (January 13), but this will spread across parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland over the coming week.

The Highlands, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Perth and Kinross, Stirling and Argyll and Bute and the Outer Hebrides will see snow continue into Sunday (January 14) and Monday (January 15, according to WX Charts.

Snow will push further south by Tuesday (January 16), affecting all of Scotland as well as parts of Cumbria and Northumberland. By the evening this will have spread to Lancashire, Greater Manchester, parts of Yorkshire and almost all of north Wales, WX Charts shows.

This picture looks set to remain over the next few days, but by Friday (January 19) snow shows up across those same areas as well as over much of Wales and pockets of Norfolk, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, according to WX Charts.

Jim Dale, Senior Meteorologist at British Weather Services, told Express.co.uk snow will most likely miss the south, but hit Scotland hard.

He said: “It may still shave the southern coastal fringe, but it looks like the freezing air will prevent the Atlantic front coming any further north.

“Scotland will be worst hit Monday to Wednesday, but we will all be in the freezer. We could see -15C in the western Highlands by Wednesday morning.”

The Met Office has issued a yellow snow and ice warning for Sunday (January 14), affecting Grampian, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Highlands & Eilean Siar, Eilean Siar, the Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands

It warns frequent snow showers are likely to cause further travel chaos on Monday (January 15). A wind warning is also in force on Sunday across the Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands.

A snow and ice warning has also been issued by the Met Office with showers, increasingly falling as snow, bringing disruption to Northern Ireland on Monday.
