Neighbour asks to borrow parking spot for 'couple of weeks' – but leaves truck for months

A woman has been left bemused after her neighbour asked if they could park their truck near her house for a “couple of weeks” – only for it to still be there almost two months later.

To make matters worse, the owner has now removed the wheels from the truck, leaving it looking as though it is going nowhere fast. Unsure how to approach the situation, Reddit user FormerGutterSkank reached out to the site for help.

She wrote: “My neighbor said, ‘Do you mind if I park my truck beside the garage for a couple weeks until I can get it hauled away?’ It’s been almost two months now, and yesterday he took off the wheels.”

The Redditor then shared photos of the truck, along with rubbish slewn across the vehicle’s interior. It left the woman feeling as though the gesture had been taken advantage of.

Reddit users were quick to suggest the landowner calls in scrappers to take the vehicle away. With some suggesting the vehicle owner should pay for the expense.

One said: “Sounds like you know what to do. Tell him to move it, or you’ll call a scrapper to come haul it.”

Another said: “Tell him to give you the money and you get it hauled.”

A third added: “Looks like it’s yours now. Time to scrap it out.”

The landowner however was confused about whether or not they could get rid of the vehicle. As it was still technically owned by their neighbour.

They added: “I don’t think I can legally touch it since it’s not mine? But if the catalytic converter might… mysteriously disappear one day.

“I guess nothing [is wrong with it], other than being an eyesore, which is probably why I haven’t pushed the issue. Someone said it could attract rats at some point.”

Luckily another Redditor came to the rescue and explained some states allow a vehicle to be removed after seven days, with it being considered abandoned after 30.

The original homeowner revealed she gave the car’s owner a week’s notice and he said he would move it.
