Names of ‘royal racists’ were in Omid Scobie’s original manuscript, Dutch translator says

The woman who translated the Dutch edition of Omid Scobie’s Endgame has insisted the names of the two “royal racists” were in the original manuscript.

It comes after Piers Morgan named the two royals accused of discussing the skin colour of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby Archie on Talk TV last night.

Scobie has always denied including the information, but translator Saskia Peeters said she did not add the names to the Dutch version of the book.

She told the MailOnline: “As a translator, I translate what is in front of me.

“The names of the royals were there in black and white. I did not add them. I just did what I was paid to do and that was translate the book from English into Dutch.”

But despite her claims, Scobie told ITV’s This Morning that the names were not there when he submitted the book to his publisher.

He told Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley: “I never submitted a book that had those names in it.”

MailOnline says Ms Peeters was “clearly shocked and nervous” at the attention the translation had received.

When she was told by the MailOnline that Scobie was denying putting them in the book, she replied: “I don’t know why he would say that.

“I have been translating for many years. This is the first time anything like this has happened.

“This is not something I wanted to be involved in. This has been upsetting. I do not want to talk about it much more.”

According to Ms Peeters, the pages were distributed between herself and fellow translator Nellie Keukellar-van Rijsbergen to transcribe.

In a statement yesterday, Scobie claimed it was an “error in the translation” which had led to the names being revealed and said he was “happy” to see it corrected.

But Dutch publisher Xander Uitgevers said it was an “error that occurred in the Dutch edition” making no reference to translation.

The book, which is named ‘Final Battle’ in the Netherlands, has seen 5,000 copies pulled from the shelves of Dutch bookshops, after they were ordered to return them to the publisher.

It is thought the book will go back on sale next week.
