For those thinking the next year will be calm and peaceful, the legendary ‘Nostradamus of the Balkans’ had another idea.
Vangelia Pandeva Gushterova, who was popularly known as Baba Vanga, made several predictions for 2024, including assassinations of world leaders and biological weapon attacks. The blind Bulgarian soothsayer and clairvoyant became well-known for her eerily accurate predictions from a young age.
Baba Vanga often attributed her incredible powers to a tornado that left her blind. World leaders like Bulgarian Tsar Boris III and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev were so convinced that they reportedly consulted her in person.

Following her death in 1996, believers have continued to extract future predictions from her work. Supporters claim she was able to predict the death of Princess Diana, the sinking of the Russian submarine Kursk, and the 9/11 terror attacks, as well as the coronavirus pandemic.
For the year ahead, Baba Vanga reportedly predicted the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin by “a fellow countryman”.
While the war in Ukraine rages on, the death of the Russian leader could plunge the world into greater uncertainty. She also warned of terror attacks across Europe, while an unnamed “big country” will carry out biological weapons attacks in 2024, according to interpretations of her predictions.
Economic experts should be warned that the mystic also foretold of a huge economic crisis in 2024. She said that rising debt levels and escalating geopolitical tensions risk plunging the global economy into chaos.
She also forecast a worsening climate, with several terrifying weather events wreaking havoc throughout the year. Cyber attacks will also throw the world into peril, with Baba Vanga predicting a rise in attacks on crucial infrastructure like power grids and water treatment plants.
On a more positive note, the Bulgarian also reportedly predicted new treatments for devastating diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer next year, as well as a major technological breakthrough in quantum computing.
Beyond 2024, Baba Vanga said that world hunger would end by 2028, ahead of communism’s return in 2076, while humans would crack time travel in 2304.
However, her predictions should often be taken with a pinch of salt. For 2023, the mystic is said to have predicted a devastating solar storm striking the planet as well as a nuclear bioweapon attack.
Fortunately, with just a week to go until the end of the year, both of these events have yet to happen – and are incredibly unlikely, if not impossible.
