Mystery as woman finds 'dinosaur' claw in front garden that leaves experts baffled

Experts have been left baffled after a woman found what looked like a dinosaur’s claw in her front garden. Laura Moorcroft found the “scaly lizard-like claw” after returning home from a walk and noticing it in their front garden. Locals guessed it was from a bird or poultry while others said it could be something reptilian like an alligator, crocodile or tortoise. But Laura was convinced it was “from a dinosaur”.

She said: “Me and my husband had just come back from a walk and he noticed it on the grass.

“It looks prehistoric to us – a scaly lizard-like claw.

“We’re huge fans of Jurassic Park so instantly thought it was from a dinosaur, I mean it looks very lizard-like doesn’t it?”

But despite dinosaurs going extinct millions of years ago, others also spotted the similarities.

Some even suggested it was from the movie monster seen in 1984’s Gremlins.

Seeking a more informed opinion, Laura, 36, reached out to Chester Zoo and a nearby vet.

They both said it likely came from a bird, but couldn’t agree on what species it was.

“One said it was like a pheasant and the other a turkey so we’re still none the wiser,” said Laura.

Mrs Moorcroft said: “We have CCTV but it was a bit too far down the garden to pick anything up, so it remains a mystery.”

She added: “I like our guess of a velociraptor best; I love that people had the same thinking.

“I saw someone had thought it was a Gremlin!

“We didn’t think something like this would grab everyone’s attention.”
