‘My sister beat cancer – now I don’t want her at my wedding for certain reason’

A frustrated sibling is sick of their sister’s health “taking the spotlight” at every event – and now has decided they may not invite her to their wedding.

The 26-year-old sister, who they named Anna when sharing their story online, had cancer when she was 15 and was able to beat it. But, taking to Reddit to vent their exasperation, the wedding planner said she has since brought up her medical condition at every major event.

The Redditor said their sister has been having “growths” ever since her cancer receded, and “anytime one appears we are worried about the cancer coming back.”

But their issue is “she always makes these announcements that she needs to go to the doctors again at the worst times.”

“At the beginning I thought it was just bad timing,” they explained, “but it has happened so many times when I hit a milestone. My graduations, my birthdays, my engagement party.”

They added: “Anytime she makes an announcement she needs to go back to the hospital my whole family will flock to her.”

They then explained that with their wedding approaching, they had just learned Anna was possibly going to be using a wheelchair for the event. However, the 26-year-old was refusing to tell anyone else in the family about it.

Fearing she was once again going to steal the spotlight, the Redditor informed the rest of the family their sister was no longer invited. “This started a huge argument about how I’m a d**k,” they said.

But those responding felt that because the sister was refusing to warn other family members of her need to use a wheelchair beforehand, it was a clear sign she intended to nab the spotlight once again.

“It has been 11 years. Her situation is sad, but it’s obvious that she’s leveraged it and continues to manipulate everyone,” said one. They added: “Explain calmly that you love your sister but that she has been using her health situation to hijack every event in your life.”

“Her refusing to inform any other relatives of this indicates she is doing it to steal your thunder, especially since she’s doing this at every family gathering,” said a second. “It’s not about the wheelchair itself, it’s about her trying to steal the moment.

Another added: “If she already knows she sick why not just tell people? Instead she waits till someone else has an event, then she announces it.”

They asked: “How often do her events end with an announcement?” to which the Redditor responded they “don’t think she has ever done it at her own celebration”.

The wedding planner announced their strategy would now be to “do a mass blast to all my relatives, saying she is in a wheelchair and unsure if she will be able to make it to my wedding, keep my sister in their thoughts and prayers.”

“I’m getting ahead of this,” they added.
