'My colleague told me I was very boring at the Christmas Party and now I want to quit'

A woman says she wants to quit her job after she was told her colleagues thought she was “very boring” at an office Christmas party.

The mum said she was on her best behaviour for the event as she had only just joined her company and had a history of “getting too drunk”.

Taking to Mumsnet to ask if she was right to be offended, the mum said she had stayed with her colleagues for the whole night even going for drinks afterwards under “a lot of pressure” which saw half the team leave and half stay.

In her post, the woman said she had enjoyed her night until she was approached by a male colleague.

Her post read: “I went on to the bar and had a lovely time dancing and chatting. Until one of my male colleagues came over and said to me ‘I’ve been discussing this out and we think you’re nice bit very boring’.

“I was so upset and offended and told him to naff off basically. I then went and sat down to gather my things to leave at which point he came over and tried to engage in conversation.

“I told him I was hurt and offended by his comment and he claimed he’d said nothing of the sort and I’d imagined it. But other people heard him say it.

“He then said I’d made a mistake, no apology.

“Full blown gaslighting, he was obviously annoyed I’d pulled him up on his rudeness and when I was leaving he hit me ‘accidentally’ twice on the head with his coat.

“I am so hurt. I feel like resigning.”

Almost all of the responses to her post said the man was being an “a**hole” and told her not to let him ruin the evening or put her off the job.

One commenter replied: “Honestly this bloke sounds like an idiot, was he drunk? Either way there’s no excuse for his behaviour but I think resigning is a bit drastic. He will probably feel like a right fool in the morning.”

Another added: “A***hole will be a**holes, smile and nod and walk away. He probably won’t even remember what he’s said.

“The best form of revenge is success, definitely not worth resigning over.”
