'Murdered' teacher's family 'devastated' by death that also killed unborn son

Marelle Sturrock’s parents have said they are “devastated” by her loss after the 35-year-old was murdered while 29 weeks pregnant.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, Colin and Lorna also expressed their grief over the death of their “soon-to-be grandson, Jayden Sturrock.”

They added: “Marelle was the happiest person you could ever meet and was always looking to help others the best she could.

“Marelle and her partner doted on each other, and this incident has come as a total shock to all who knew her.

“We would like to thank family and friends, colleagues at Sandwood Primary School, Police Scotland officers, both in the Highlands and Glasgow, for their efforts and comforting support following our tragic event.

“Our family would like everyone, including the press, to respect our privacy at this very sad and difficult time.”

Marelle’s partner David Yates, 36, was wanted in connection with her death after a murder probe was launched.

His body was found on Thursday, April 27, seemingly having taken his own life.

His own death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police were called after Marelle’s body was discovered at her own home in Glasgow on Tuesday, April 25.
