Mum welcomes 'miracle' daughter after miscarrying more than 20 times in nine years

A mum who miscarried more than 20 times over less than a decade has finally welcomed a daughter.

Caroline Langstone, 33, has always wanted a family but miscarried 21 babies during the nine years she and her husband, Luke Clayton, 39, tried for a child.

The couple was left heartbroken, with Ms Langstone feeling isolated, alone and fearing that she may never have a child of her own.

They eventually turned to IVF and welcomed Amelia, their healthy “miracle baby” who has turned their lives “upside down”.

The new parents have told how they are overjoyed with their baby daughter, who arrived after a “scary” pregnancy.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Ms Langstone said the heartbreak began one year into her relationship with Mr Clayton, an IT manager.

The customer service worker was devastated when she lost the first baby at six weeks, and after then, it was “just constantly happening”.

The experience left her feeling “so alone” as her friends became pregnant and welcomed their first children.

Every time she encountered an expectant loved one, she said she felt herself “being distant from them”.

The couple consulted with numerous doctors and eventually found that she had an issue with her womb lining researchers theorised antibiotics could solve.

She participated in a trial for University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, in which she was one of 450 women given either a drug or placebo.

After also trying IVF treatment, Ms Langstone became pregnant again in November 2022, and while they eventually welcomed their bouncing baby daughter, the pregnancy initially left the mum “so scared”.

She said: “I was so scared throughout the pregnancy. I have never bought any baby clothes or anything, but friends started buying me things. Then I realised it was real.”

Amelia was born on July 24, weighing a healthy 7lbs, and while her sleep schedule is keeping the couple awake, they couldn’t be happier.

She added: “I’ve got my miracle and my little family. After losing 21 babies, it shows you, never lose that hope.”
