A mother of a six-year-old girl has left her fellow parents furious after hosting a drama-filled birthday party for her daughter and their friends.
The fury resulted from a Build a Bear get-together which left a host of youngsters in a breakdown after being denied what they thought was rightfully theirs.
It all began, according to the Reddit post, when the group of eight children got together at a shopping centre for some food: “We had cake and pizza in the food court, then went down to BAB to make bears”.
The mother of one of the attendees wrote that she – along with most of the parents there – had instructed her child to just get a “standard dog with a shirt” as opposed to a more colourfully-clothed one, given how “expensive these things can get”.
The children reportedly had a cracking time, but when they were on the way out, ready to go back to the birthday girl’s house, drama ensued.
The birthday girl’s mum suddenly “announces that the kids need to give all their animals to her daughter” – a demand which left the children “upset and angry”.
The children disappointedly handed their new furry friends over – the birthday girl allegedly “wasn’t being nice about it either”.
The angry mum added in her post that “another little boy didn’t want to”, but he had the stuffed toy “ripped out of his hands”.
The onlooking parents were left “baffled” – especially as they had all brought gifts too. Back at the house, the children simply “just watched” as the birthday girl played with all eight new bears.
The party quickly fizzled out and the poster’s daughter “burst into tears” as soon as she got back into the car.
Fast forward to the school gates a few days later, and the birthday girl’s mum, Karen, vehemently defended her decision, saying: “We wanted our daughter to have a special animal decorated by each of her friends”.
When another parent said “I don’t see why your daughter needs all these animals”, Karen simply “waltzed off”.
The Reddit poster complained that: “What bothers me is she said she ‘didn’t have enough money for all the kids to have one’, but she did have enough for her daughter to get like 8 bears. Just doesn’t really make sense.”
