A mum broke into tears after Benidorm holidaymakers swarmed “like ants” to rows of sunbeds on a seaside resort.
Cayleigh Tuffs, 34, her husband Andrew, 37, and their eight-year-old daughter Charley, had spent £2,000 on a Jet2 package to Spain for a much-needed summer holiday.
But their relaxing stay at the Magic Aqua Rock Gardens in Alicante was plunged into chaos during a battle for the beds.
Ms Tuffs described her “horrendous” experience as she tried to reserve a space by the pool for her family on their very first day in the sun-soaked Spanish holiday hotspot.
She told The Sun Online that her fellow holidaymakers were “like ants scurrying for food” when they descended on the poolside that first morning.
The family found they would need to join a struggle to secure a place If they wanted to relax by the water.
Ms Tuffs said they had seen people “throw towels across the pool” to get their foot in the door.
The IT manager from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, added that people were even running through the “massively slippery” area.
The chaos was completely alien to the family of three, who go on holiday “five times a year”.
She said this was the “first time we’ve ever seen anything like this”, adding that they were forced to sit under a slide when they arrived looking for a place to sit one afternoon.
When they returned looking for a place earlier, she found other Brits queueing for an hour before the pool opened at 10am.
The family’s trouble has left them resolute to never return, with Ms Tuffs saying she would “never come with my family again because of how chaotic it is”.
She added: “I’ve been with my friends before, but it’s been nothing like this year.”
Unfortunately for many holidaymakers, the experience is not confined to Benidorm, with “sunbed wars” also reported at resorts in Greece, Spain, Turkey and Portugal.
Costa Del Sol tourists recently reported waiting in line for two hours before sending their children to quickly secure the best places.
