Mum in shock after waking up to find her children had opened all their Christmas presents

A mother-of-three received a shock on Christmas Day when she discovered her two young children had crept downstairs to open their presents without her. On December 25 2020, Mitzie, aged three, and Preston, four at the time, snuck downstairs with excitement to unwrap their presents from Father Christmas. Their mother, who had been fast asleep, was awoken by noises in the house at five in the morning and quickly discovered the pair had opened their presents from the entire family. Ms Hinchcliffe recently shared a clip of her Christmas Day ordeal on TikTok, where it quickly went viral and has since amassed over six million views.

The stay-at-home mother from New Milton in Hampshire recalled: “It was a nightmare. I hadn’t gone to sleep until two. I was fast asleep and didn’t hear a thing.”

She added: “The presents weren’t just from me. They were from the whole family, and they ripped open all of them so family members didn’t get see them open them.”

A recording of the incident captured Ms Hinchcliffe’s shock as she entered the living room, strewn with wrapping paper, to the excited squeals of Mitzie and Preston as their sibling Alfie, also three, slept upstairs.

Startled, Ms Hinchcliffe calmly asked the kids: “How long have you been up?”

Clearly unaware of his mother’s dismay at missing the Christmas Day unboxing, Preston simply responded: “But…Santa’s been.”

Ms Hinchcliffe explained: “I was laying in bed and I’d woken up and could see the hall light on so my tummy kind of sank a bit.

“So I knew one of them had been up and could hear talking downstairs.

“I grabbed my phone and knew deep down they’d done something, I just wish I knew how long they were down there for!

“Not only had they opened the wrapping paper but also the boxes were open too so the toys were out!”
