Deonna Fletcher was super-excited when she found out she was pregnant — but what she wasn’t expecting was to go back to the doctor a week later and find out she was pregnant again.
That’s what the Pennsylvania mom revealed in a new profile for People, when she discovered that she’d experienced a rare condition called “superfetation.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, superfetation occurs when an already pregnant woman gets pregnant for a second time, often shortly after she conceives the first time.
Because of the way female body mechanisms work, the chances of experiencing superfetation are near zero.

Fletcher — who lives in a Pittsburgh suburb with her husband, Antonio Livingston — experienced the impossible.
“My ultrasound, it was a vaginal ultrasound since I was pretty early,” she said to the outlet. “So it wasn’t like the other two were missed. It was really just one baby in there, in one sac.”
She continued: “I think about a week or two later, I was at work and I was just in a lot of pain. I thought I was having a miscarriage, so I went to the ER to get another ultrasound and just to get checked up on, and that’s when they discovered that there were two more babies.”
“Basically, I ovulated twice, but at two different times,” she concluded.
Fletcher was able to carry the babies up to 32 weeks, after which she was forced to go into labor and have a C-section.
“So that morning when I had woken up, it was just very early,” she said. “I was in so much pain and I was four centimeters dilated, and they just didn’t want me dilating any further than that. So that’s why we just decided to do our C-section that day. I was only two weeks away from my scheduled C-section, so it wasn’t too bad.”
The three babies — girls Amani, Amber and Dream — were later joined by younger brother Antonio Jr.
Today, the “superfetation” triplets are soon to be three years old, and Fletcher documents their lives on her Instagram page, @deeandtplusthree.
