Mum furious after no-one gives up seat for her and son on crowded train

A mum has been left furious after no one gave up their seat for either her or her son on a crowded train.

Posting footage of the incident on TikTok, the mother attempted to shame fellow travellers who ignored her child and forced the pair to sit on the floor of the carriage.

In the caption alongside the video the mother, who went by the name ‘Kelly’, wrote: “All these people watching my baby sit on the floor in priority seats area! Oblivious.”

Since sharing the video on the social media platform, it has been viewed over two million times and received a wave of responses.

In the video, her son can be seen on the ground in the aisle of the train while other passengers are on their devices.

However, while ‘Kelly’ was outraged by the lack of response from passengers, not all of her followers agreed with her thoughts.

The majority of users disagreed with ‘Kelly’ and debated what the correct etiquette was on a crowded train.

One person wrote: “My parents used to make me give up my seat for adults…don’t make your child think they’re entitled. We give seats to the elderly, not the young.”

A second person added: “Kids don’t take priority seats. Disabled people, pregnant women, the elderly, or babes in arms.”

A third said: “Kids sit on the floor, adults have chairs. That’s called respect. Absolutely nothing wrong with this! Pop your phone away.”

A fourth said the comments underneath Kelly’s video had “restored” their “faith in humanity” and said they had never understood why adults gave up their seats to children.

While Kelly received a barrage of negative comments from users, not everyone disagreed with her point of view.

Several people supported ‘Kelly’ and believed she had every right to be upset that no one on the train had given up their seat for her child.

One person said: “Poor form from the passengers and in the comments. I’d give up my seat for a child in a second.”

A second person wrote: “I’m 22 and have a hidden disability, some woman stared me down one time and I told her no.”
