Mum faces capital murder charges over gruesome 8-year-old's slaying

An Alabama woman is facing capital murder charges after allegedly slaying her son and stabbing the boy’s grandfather. Jennifer Nicole Long was taken into custody after her father called the police to check on the eight-year-old amid fears she would hurt him. The boy was reportedly found in a bedroom with the knife still stuck in his body.

An affidavit by Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to intervene on Thursday evening after reports of a stabbing at home.

In an affidavit following Long’s arrest, the Sheriff’s Office said: “Morgan County Deputies responded to the scene on Village Dr near Hartselle, assisted by Priceville Police Department.

“Once on scene, deputies located an adult male suffering from a stab wound and one deceased 8yr old boy.”

According to Alabama statute 13A-5-40(a)(15) anyone charged with the intentional murder of a child under 14 faces a potential death penalty sentence if found guilty.
